PregnantTogether and femme & femme LLP join forces for this virtual community gathering to discuss the LGBT legal landscape.
What You’ll Learn:
Has the Supreme Court taken on a case to overturn gay marriage? How does the Skrmetti decision impact me as a trans adult in California? How do I protect my friends and family (chosen and otherwise) as an LGBT person or as an ally to LGBT people? These are just some of the questions we are overhearing in our community and all of which are worthy of being heard and held together. Join us for an informative and grounded virtual conversation to discuss answers to these questions and more.
Part law, part feelings — this conversation will involve a presentation on legal concepts like how a case makes it to the Supreme Court, what recent laws have passed impacting LGBTQ+ people, and some of the best ways we know how to protect and care for each other inside and outside of the law.
Serving as the foundation for this conversation are several undeniable truths: (1) structural and systemic attacks on queer and trans people are not new; (2) we find ourselves at a time of increasing transphobia and homophobia in the US and around the world; (3) Black, brown, indigenous, immigrant, poor, incarcerated, disabled, and sex working queer and trans people are among those who experience the brunt of the Trump administration’s bigotry and administrations past. Friday’s conversation will focus on a few of the many issues important to queer and trans people today. We hope you will join us in strengthening our capacity to care for another during these challenging times. We need everyone. Our goal is not to erase this reality but to strengthen our capacity to care for one another during these challenging times.
About femme & femme LLP:
We provide LGBTQ+ clients and allies with heart-centered legal services during important events in their life, from birth to death.
As queer people, we understand our collective safety and wellbeing does not start or end with the law. And as experienced attorneys, we recognize the law currently plays a significant role in determining which types of families are protected and which are not, as well as how resources are passed generationally.
Whether you are expanding your family to include a little one or want to ensure chosen loved ones are at your bedside if your health turns, we are here to help. We see family protection law and estate planning as part of a much larger practice to honor the dignity and self-determination of queer & trans people. We all deserve to create the families our hearts yearn for and to plan and protect our families (chosen and bio) during our lifetime and beyond.
As queer nonbinary femmes, we delight in working with our community and we serve anyone in need of a compassionate and skilled legal team.
Free tickets available. All queers and allies welcome.
