Three Truths & A Lie: Estate Planning for LGBTQ+ Families

Demystify and myth-bust estate planning w/ three community-oriented attorneys. Leave with an understanding of the legal tools available to you to protect your burgeoning or established queer and/or chosen family.

About your presenters:

Lyla Bugara (they/he/she): Lyla is a mixed race, brasilian-american, nonbinary queer femme with more than fifteen years of experience working with others to create a more liberated world. Their work is indebted to the brilliance/power of Black feminism and Black liberation movements across the world. Lyla is known for navigating complex and emotionally-charged legal situations with compassion & presence. As a co-founder of femme & femme LLP, they are honored to serve queer Californians and allies with their family creation and estate planning needs. When not working alongside their best friend, he loves to write, swim, drink tea and rest with their cat, Baiacu.

Nik Sallie is an award-winning Intellectual Property and estate planning attorney and the founder of Tastemakers Legal, PLLC, a boutique law firm based in Austin, Texas. With over a decade at Meta (formerly Facebook), she was a founding member of the Intellectual Property Operations Team, where she helped design Meta’s global IP enforcement system and handled over 4,000 intellectual property cases, gaining deep experience in trademark prosecution, brand protection, and large-scale enforcement strategy.

Today, Nik helps visionary entrepreneurs, founders, and growing companies build legally sound, scalable businesses that protect what they’re building while positioning them for long-term success.

In addition to intellectual property, Nik offers concierge estate planning services as a Personal Family Lawyer®, helping clients protect and transfer their wealth with clarity and intention—without costly court involvement or conflict. Her estate planning practice emphasizes flat-fee pricing, client education, and ongoing support for families navigating life’s transitions.

Rachel Schiff (they/femme) is a queer femme magic maker, abolitionist and attorney. They co-manage femme & femme LLP alongside their beloved best femme, serving LGBTQ+ and allies doing family formation and estate planning law. Prior to co-founding their firm, Rachel lawyered in corporate drag doing complex civil litigation and maintained a robust civil rights pro bono practice. Outside of the law, Rachel loves liberation, an afternoon queer dance party & swimming alongside flamboyant sea creatures.

Hi! I am Marea Goodman, LM, CPM (they/them), a licensed midwife, published author, and parent. I have over fifteen years of experience working with folks who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and am also the founder of PregnantTogether— because I’m deeply passionate about supporting queer folks and solo parents through the whole process of growing their families, and building community in the process.

Note: your first two weeks of membership to our PregnantTogether community is FREE and only $20/mo thereafter with no commitment. This and all future events are always free for community members. In the community you can connect with other pregnant people or folks trying to conceive, receive advice for your virtual midwife (me!) and attend all PregnantTogether events and workshops like this one for free! You’ll also get access to TONS of recorded resources that will make this journey less overwhelming. The community is a nurturing, resourceful, and safe place for queer folks, solo parents, and anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong in the dominant narrative of what “family” should be.

If you'd like to join the community and receive FREE access to this and all future events, head to community.pregnanttogether.com and sign up. Don't purchase a ticket here! Joining the community gets you free access.
